Safeguarding

St Thomas More Catholic Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We recognise that all adults, including temporary staff, volunteers and academy representatives, have a full and active part to play in protecting our students from harm, and that the child or young person’s welfare is our paramount concern.

We believe that St Thomas More Catholic Academy should provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical and moral development of the individual child or young person.

We have a Safeguarding And Child Protection Policy and a Covid-19 Safeguarding And Child Protection Policy which clearly outlines the procedures in place within our school.  All staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures. Parents and carers are welcome to read the policy on this website.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child or young person’s welfare.

We will ensure that our concerns about our students are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child or young person’s welfare.

We have a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) to support our students. Our lead DSL is Mrs J Stubbs (Assistant Headteacher).  The Assistant Child Protection Officer is Mrs A Staton (Head Of Key Stage 3). Our designated teacher for looked after and previously looked after children is Mrs J Stubbs (Assistant Headteacher).
