Catholic Life and Mission

Living Our Mission Statement

Christ is at the heart of our community, where everyone is known and loved. In fulfilling our mission we are a school of prayer. We live as a community of love, peace and reconciliation, valuing everyone’s dignity as a child of God to promote and celebrate the growth and achievement of the whole person.

As a Catholic school, we offer an education firmly based upon our Gospel Values, and our Mission Statement puts these at the heart of all we do. These permeate school life and we focus on the following three values in school:

Faith, Excellence and Respect

Our school ethos is built upon these values to create a happy and aspirational learning environment where every student can thrive.

Our Mission Statement encompasses our vision for St Thomas More Catholic Academy;

Christ is at the heart of our community, where everyone is known and loved.

In fulfilling our mission we are a school of prayer. We live as a community of love, peace and reconciliation, valuing everyone’s dignity as a child of God to promote and celebrate the growth and achievement of the whole person.

We are constantly looking at ways to continue to grow the Catholic Life of our school to best serve the young people who belong to our school community, and to ensure they realise how amazing, how special and how loved each one of them is.

Our school is inclusive of all faiths or beliefs a young person has and we take a holistic view of education which brings together not just academic achievement, but also spirituality, pastoral care and a broad approach to learning.

We take our duty of care to our students very seriously, and as such, ensure that we place a great deal of time and energy into supporting them. Our dedicated chaplaincy team offer our students the opportunity to explore their faith further, and offer informal group support sessions during lunchtime and break times. These are a valuable addition to our morning prayers in assembly and form time, and the access students have to our school chapel where they can seek solitude or sit in quiet prayer.

Our team of staff are committed, positive and hardworking – like our students – and aspire to be the best at what they do. They bring their energy and positivity to the classroom and act as good role models for our students. They encourage our students to make positive decisions for themselves, to grow in confidence, and guide and support them in their independent thinking.
