Safeguarding
St Thomas More Catholic Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
We recognise that all adults, including temporary staff, volunteers and academy representatives, have a full and active part to play in protecting our students from harm, and that the child or young person’s welfare is our paramount concern.
St Thomas More Catholic Academy provides a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical and moral development of the individual child or young person.
We have a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) to support our students. Our lead DSL is Mrs J Stubbs (Assistant Headteacher). Mrs Stubbs is supported by three Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads and both the Pastoral and SEN teams.

Responding to Safeguarding Concerns
Staff within St Thomas More Catholic Academy understand that we all have a responsibility to make sure that concerns about children and vulnerable adults are passed to the school’s safeguarding team without delay. All concerns are reviewed by our safeguarding team to determine the appropriate course of action.
When concerned about the welfare of a child, staff always act in the best interests of the child. Any safeguarding disclosure reported by a child to school will automatically be referred to social care (if relevant) and recorded on the school’s recording system.
