Catholic Prayer and Liturgy

School Chapel

At St Thomas More, we are fortunate to have our own bespoke Chapel, where staff and students are welcome to come to reflect and pray.  Each week there is scheduled staff prayer time, weekly mass for staff and students as well as light fever.  We are thankful for Father David and his contribution to our community and having a constant presence in our chapel and school life.

Morning Mission Programme

Chaplaincy Timetable

Our staff and students are invited to take part in an extensive chaplaincy programme.

House Saints

When you start at St Thomas More, you will be part of a form group.  Each form group is named after a saint.  Find out more about the saints here.

Throughout the school year we come together as houses for a celebration of Mass, sports day and on notable feast days.

Year 7 AOW student led

Y7 form groups lead their own Y7 Act of worship which is part of our prayer and liturgy rota.

Students plan these during form time and then the act of worship is student led. Students focus on liturgical themes, liturgical seasons and charity fundraising.

Faith Leaders

Our student faith leaders take an active role within our Catholic community.

Regularly meeting with Lay Chaplin Meg, they come together to discuss how Catholic life is being communicated within school and how they can further support the faith of the school.  The students embody the school values of Faith, Excellence and Respect and are always the first on hand to help around school. Faith leaders also support with form time masses as well as preparing for all events in school.  The school allows students to continue and develop their faith in school time, through the daily prayers, weekly Acts of Worship, weekly mass and form time masses.

Light Fever

Our Chaplaincy regularly runs ‘Light Fever’ in our school Chapel. ‘Light fever’ is Eucharistic Adoration of Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. Many pupils come to light a candle and spend some time before Jesus in prayer and listen to some quiet, reflective music.

Students hold lanterns to symbolise the light of Christ and lit candles for those who attended to enjoy time before Jesus in prayer, whilst reflecting on the music, prayer cards and quotations from scripture. Students enjoy being part of Light Fever.

Prayer

Throughout our school journey, we all experience times where we are comforted in prayer.  The staff at St Thomas More are here to support students in prayer and offer a reflective environment in the Savio Centre and Chapel.

They both offer a calmness and are at the heart of the school community.  A place where students and staff alike, can come together to pray.
